The rip-roaring romance between Ruth and Boaz is but a shadow of the mutual love between Christ and his church. Yet, it does contain many instructive lessons for anyone seeking a similarly beautiful and successful romance. Or healthy relationships of any kind.
We see the first and second command being lived out in this beautiful relationship. Boaz and Ruth are loving God with all their might, and therefore serving one another in every way possible. The result is a breathtaking display of God’s glory.
1) Entreat.
Point to ponder: As in every other part of his life, Boaz sees his need for God’s blessing and direction in his relationship with Ruth.
Question to consider: Is there an area of your life that you are not submitting to God, asking for his way to be done?
2) Protect.
Point to ponder: Like any godly man would do, Boaz protects Ruth physically and protects her reputation.
Question to consider: Are you thoughtful of others, careful of how you act toward them and speak about them?
3) Commit.
Point to ponder: Boaz commits to Ruth that, whether by his hand or another, he will make sure that today is the day of Ruth’s redemption.
Question to consider: Will you trust in the redemption that is found in Jesus Christ alone?
